THC is the cannabinoid that causes the high, using this with CBD causes the THC to work more like a
tranquilizer and have less side effects such as anxiety and paranoia. It is always good to use THC with
some combination of CBD. They are synergistic when used together.
I expect approximately a 30% reduction in pain with use of medical marijuana. When dosing any form
of marijuana start with small dosages, wait several days and slowly increase the dose to desired effect.
The effect of marijuana does not occur after the first time its used. Your body will then respond to
marijuana. I recommend starting with oral CBD oil for a week or 2 and then add the THC component
either by vaporization or oral.
It is important to know the difference between Sativa and Indica. Most medical marijuana is a hybrid of
the two. Indica dominant hybrids have a more sedating effect and work well for insomnia and anxiety.
Sativa dominant hybrids are more activating and can cause anxiety and paranoia. Low dose THC is good
for anxiety. High-dose THC can lead to anxiety and paranoia. This can be reduced significantly by using
THC with CBD.
Medical marijuana can be taken by ingestion or inhalation. Smoking marijuana is illegal in Utah. Vaporizers must be used with flower. Vape cartridges can also be purchased. Tincture or oil is taken by mouth, preferably with food for better absorption.
When it is taken by mouth it takes 1 to 2 hours to peak and lasts for 6 to 12 hours. When marijuana is
inhaled it starts working within several minutes, peaks in a half an hour and lasts for 2 to 4 hours. It is
illegal to smoke marijuana in Utah, ( a good company for vaporizers is Storz & Bickel). Keep in mind
when planning to operate machinery or drive or doing anything that requires concentration or thinking
as marijuana effects will persist for these timeframes. THC is intoxicating and potentially addictive. It
has limited scientific proof that it works for certain medical conditions. It should not be used when you
are pregnant or breast-feeding as it can harm the fetus. Certain medications should be avoided such as
warfarin or Coumadin. CBD should not be taken with Plavix. Other drug interactions are mostly because
of the sedating effects of marijuana. Long-term use of marijuana can lead to cyclic vomiting syndrome.
This means if you start vomiting while taking marijuana, you should consult a physician and consider
discontinuing marijuana. It is my opinion that THC should not be used with warfarin because of the risk
of increased bleeding.
